Jeremy Vintcent Psychotherapy and Counselling in Brighton and Hove

How I work

In the beginning I devote myself to making you more aware of your emotions. I listen carefuly to what might be trying to come through, sometimes offering an alternative understanding. The next step is to track the changes in your emotional states that may have led you to act out in ways that cause you difficulties. Being able to see and acknowledge previously unrecognised feelings and the effects they have had on you can begin to create stability

I encourage you to be curious about what you bring, even curious about where you might be worried about being judged.

If you find yourself repeating the same behaviours and patterns of thinking/feeling, then it may be that you're revisiting experiences or ideas that may be outdated and no longer relevant in your life today.

However infuriating these patterns may seem, you may also be attempting to resolve something. Feelings of depression, listlessness and anxiety provoke habits that can limit the ability to live loving and creative lives.

Because we were all shaped by early relationships in a range of ways, the advice of others or self-help books may not be enough to change things. Psychotherapy sheds light on these factors, showing how they affect your current ways of thinking and how you can deal better with the demands of adult life.
Seeing a Psychotherapist or Counsellor can help in many areas where emotional or relationship problems are being experienced.

The desire for insight, the readiness to consider another point of view and the willingness to bear uncertainty, are important.

It's not important that you have all the answers to your difficulties ready to hand.

If you feel that my approach resonates with you, then contact me for an initial meeting.

Scientific American: ‘Psychoanalytic psychotherapy works’

The most recent edition of Scientific American features ‘the strongest evidence yet that psychodynamic psychotherapy - “talk therapy” - works. In fact, it not only works, it keeps working long after the sessions stop.’
